My First Art pARTy was a Success!!!

Yes, it was!

It was a hot afternoon so the icy Sangria was in place! It was finished before the last guest stepped in.
After some days of really hard work, the displays were all over the house, but came out nice, complimenting the candles, as well as the rest of the items for sale.

Music, drinks, a lot of good food and nice people, lots of laughs and "fighting" over
Some of the most popular items…

I enjoyed every minute.

I have to take this opportunity and thank all the people who helped me so much.
Thank you Cathy N. without you I would have got lost.
Thank you Cathy M. for having my back!
Thank you Camila for your initiative (it was all your idea, remember?) and for being you!
Thank you Veronica for your special and unique contribution for the menu!
Thank you all for coming, participating, and more than that for giving the best feedback I could have wished for!

And last but not least thank you Menachem for the real help and great support, for the patience and of course the great photos!
You all gave me the moments and the momentum I needed!

P.S

I got to show in public my first ever Christmas candles and they have passed the test with high marks. Lol!

My first Art pARTy

Only writing the title makes all my skin filled with Goosebumps.  Anticipation, excitement, will people come? Will they like the exhibits? Will they buy anything? Well, the most important thing is that those who come enjoy themselves have a good time, enjoy the food and drinks and the company! I love having people at my home. In short Israelis are known for their hospitality and so am I.

My close friends and family admire what I make and they always have worm words and compliments even for the things I love less. I get very little critisism and I need it! I have so much still to learn... It will be very interesting to see people, strangers, and their reaction. I really need the feedback.

My hand painted ceramics

Things that we collected along the years and in our traveling:

Original fine furniture and home decor items which we love but do not need anymore:

Some of the highlights of Menachem photography beautifully framed

and much more like this wall mirror

Anyway, I have lots of work to do, lots of preparation and this blog post is to remind you to come along and put in some photos for you to have an idea of what is going to be in the pARTy for sale.
I must say the items look much better in real than in the photos (my photos).

The best place to have a look at the candles is my Etsy shop at

http://www.etsy.com/shop/BusyBeeArtBoutique

I hope to see you at my pARTy.
Remember
October 27th from 4pm till 8pm at my home in Carlsbad.

Something About INSPIRATIONS

"Inspiration is simply the taking in of oxygen."

Well this is one out of million ways of trying to explain this word and its meaning.

Yet, there are things which leave me breathless; Things which bring tears into my eyes. I can never forget the moment I entered the Academy of Arts in Florence Italy and laid my eyes for the first time on David, "The Giant" by Michelangelo. I stood there, with a dropped mouth, paralyzed. I couldn't move and then I started crying. A stream of worm, uncontrolled tears. No words can describe the strength of the moment, the influence of the Sculpture. Pure... beauty… sounds sentimental?  exaggerated? Banal? Well it is what it is for me. Honestly! I am a very imotional person.

Who knows what exactly that uplifting moment did to my life afterwards but moments like that made me believe in the beauty and grandeur, importance and indispensability of fine art. And for me it is like taking in oxygen- inspiration.

If you are still with me and didn't fell asleep yet while trying to read all this over chewed material… I am getting to the point! I had a very inspiring weekend in southern Utah visiting the great Zion National park

 and Bryce NP wonderland.

Now for me moments of love, moments of fights, struggling, taking over challenges like staying married to one man for 35 years and still be in love and happy.

Others like understanding my kids, letting them go, looking at them in front of their chosen lives- inspiration.

Looking at a bunch of Crows running an aerial fight against a Hawke- inspiration

And so on and on but these ones from last weekend were- INSPIRATION

And soon will be seen working on and into my creations, my candles.

Why candles of all things? (Part two)

So why candles indeed?

From the bottom of the dungeon of depression, an idea came to my mind: you must go back to where you are always the happiest. Go back to work! To create! Put your imagination, creativity, artistic instincts…in the center.

The next morning when I woke up I started hearing the first notes of music in my heart and worked almost feverishly unpacking and sorting things up. Amongst other things, some of them I met like old forgotten friends, I found my collection of candleholders. I set there in the middle of the chaos, stared at them, and saw the flickering beautiful candles once lit in them and bingo! Why not learning candles making?

Did you know that since the middle ages the biggest consumer of beeswax candles was the Catholic Church? I didn't know that although I have a degree in History, until I started the "candle making" course. I didn't even know about using beeswax for candles making, let alone all the goodness in beeswax candles. Their strength and natural beauty, the soft yet bright smoke free light and their sweat warm natural honey like aroma they spread around.

When I melt the wax before pouring it or when I warm up the beeswax sheets before rolling them I feel that this is my place, this is where I want to be. It feels like home.

Comfort by the cup

Since the beeswax is good as it is, I realized I don't want to "spoil it" with any color or scents additives and yet my longing for colors and shapes was not fulfilled. I didn't want to make paraffin wax candles since paraffin is not completely natural, being made as a side product of the petroleum industry therefore not very environmental friendly. Most of the knowledge, techniques, tricks, and experience are with paraffin wax candles so if I want to be innovative, and eco friendly and yet play with colors, shapes and scents…Soy wax is the thing for me.

And here I am trying to find my way into creating my signature candle. It will come sooner than later.
